Motivation is a feeling that ebbs and flows. More often than not it comes to you at 10pm at night when you are laying in bed thinking right i will change my world in the morning... To then wake up and think who the hell was that last night talking....
For some people starting a new program, having a holiday or event, seeing a family member struggle with their health or break ups can get someone feeling motivated to finally make a change to build healthier habits and finally feel build the confidence they have been searching for.
But what people often fail to realize although the above motivations can help you kick start and get going when these event pass or the emotion wears off... The motivation and drive to do a workout, run or mobility often fades. Which turns into 1 week off to suddenly 1 year off.
This is where planning for these times becomes important instead of thinking this time will be different, there will be no barriers it is changing the narrative to ok how can i navigate this when this arrives.
Here are 3 tips:
1) Create a non negotiable/ bare minimum list. So for the weeks where motivation is low you will have a non-negotiable of at least 2 gym workouts and 1 activity that is challenging that causes you to get your heart rate up for 30minutes. This could be jogging, skipping, jumping on the tramp or 50-100 burpees/squats in the morning. It isn't about making it perfect it is about keeping a routine
2) Have a accountability buddy, if you have a friend or family member who also struggles with their consistency hold each other accountable to the promises that we keep to ourselves
3) Accept that you are not always going to want to workout, to go for a run or high intensity class, or stretch class. But you will know that you will feel so much better after doing it. Work to make it a non-negotiable just like brushing your teeth or showering. It just may look different on certain weeks
If you really feel stuck on keeping consistent then we do offer online programs with one on one support where we can check in with you keep you accountable and help you move towards where you want to be!
