Spending all the time stretching and still feel super tight and sore? This could be why:

Stretching within it self is absolutely great for those wanting to improve flexibility and tightness. But there are some cases that tightness is actually caused by weakness or instability in a certain area. So the tightness that you are feeling is actually a solution to a problem.

Say for example your lower back is the common area people find stiff and uncomfortable. But nine times out of ten this area is what is taking more of the load and taking on more compensation than needed.

You head into the gym after a long day at work sitting, your workout concludes of deadlifts, squats, chest press, seated row and a plank. Which are all great exercises but if you look at them as a whole they put on in the same position that you have been in all day adding to the stiffness as well as the overload in the back

By including hip opening exercises that get out out of hip flexion this can help to decrease the load and the tension in this area. Say for example, adding in banded glute bridges, and hip thrusts, or back extensions and kneeling single arm pull downs. This can help to to bring your hips into a opened position whilst working on strength

Working on the area's that may be weak and compensating is important to decrease stiffness also, by improving core strength, stability, internal rotation, external rotation and awareness of the body this will help in adding better movement

If you are unsure on where to start book in for a complimentary consult where we can discuss your limitations and abilities to help you work towards moving better, feeling better along with feeling strong and empowered
